    23/11/2011 - U16A Hurling East League Final Youghal 1-7 Castleyons 0-9

    posted 24 Nov 2011 10:33 by secretarybng youghal.cork

We travelled to Killeagh on Wednesday 23rd November to play Castlelyons in the final of the Under 16 East Region A Grade Hurling League. Both teams started brightly with Castlelyons taking an early lead helped by a strong wind. Great work by goalkeeper Kash Ransom and Full back Chris Morrison kept Youghal in the game. Our midfield pairing of Ronan O’Sullivan and the tenacious Matt Farrell led the way for Youghal. Up front Aidan O’Neill, Lenny Flynn and Ollie Dempsey had a good 1st half. The 1st half ended, Youghal 0-3 Castlelyons 0-4.

The second half saw Chris Savage move to center back and Mark Flaherty to wing back. With the wind now on our backs we failed to take full advantage. With 10 minutes left on the clock and the score was Youghal 0-6 Castlelyons 0-9.  Chris Morrison moved to midfield and added energy and drive to the attack. Three minutes later the game sparked into life as Lenny Flynn finished a great move to the back of the Castlelyons net to set up the game for a tense finish. Once again Ollie Dempsey stepped up to hit the winning score after great work by Colin Keenaghan at full forward to win a 65. When Referee Arthur Murphy blew the final whistle the scoreboard read Youghal 1-7 Castlelyons 0-9.

Mark Flaherty accepted the trophy from the Chairperson of the East Region Board Regina Abernathy where he thanked Killeagh for the use of their pitch, the east region board, parents and supporters, and team mates and trainers. After three cheers for a gallant Castlelyons team the Youghal boys headed back to Club Aras to start the celebrations.
