The
curtain came down on the U14’s league campaign following the end result of this
encounter with Lisgoold. From the off this game was played at an intensity that
seemed more championship pace than league, as there was a semi final place up
for grabs. It was Youghal that got off to a great start with two quick points
by Catriona O’Keefe and Laura White. This was followed up by a well taken goal
from Ciara Crowley. It was midway through the first half before Lisgoold got
into the game, following some tactical positional changes which slowed up the
Youghal midfield who were controlling the game. Lisgoold started to get some
good sc ores on the board and slowly began eating into Youghals lead. The
second period of the first half was tit for tat when I came to scores with
Youghal leading by two points at the break. The second half began where the first
half ended but with Youghal facing into a tough head on wind. You could not
separate these teams as they went toe to toe for the remainder of the game. A
super goal by Louise Dempsey with five minutes to go seemed to be the score
that would win the game for Youghal, but this was not to be as Lisgoold a further couple of points and a late free to
end the game on an even score. On reflection this result was a fair outcome for
both teams as they were evenly matched on this occasion.

This
was the U14’s sixth outing in their league campaign. On this occasion they were
up against the new kids on the block, Na Piarsaigh, who have only been playing
since the start of the season. They took the game to Youghal from the throw in,
which was a complete surprise to both the Youghal mentors and players. Youghal
were a bit flat throughout the first half and this allowed Na Piarsaigh grow in
stature as the half progressed with the score at half time four points to one
in favour of Youghal. Things could have been on a more even keel only for the
outstanding display by our full back, Eimear Farrell.
After
a stern discussion and a number of positional changes at half time, most
notably Shauna O’Connell moving to centre forward, the second half began on a
more upbeat tempo than what the first half produced and finished on. Shauna scored three points in the second half
while Laura White and Catriona O’Keefe really put in super performances to
finish on a high for Youghal. Well done to all.

This
was Youghal’s fourth game of the league campaign and easily the most
competitive, with both teams attacking at every opportunity and with many
personnel battles in all positions on the field. On home turf it was Aghada that got off to
a flying start, notching up five points in quick succession. Most of the Aghada
attacks were coming from the middle of the park. Until Clodagh O’Keefe got a
goal, Youghal were struggling. This goal inspired the team to up their
performance by adding further scores before half time to go in at the break
leading by a goal. In the second half, our midfield started to win a lot of
possession, in particular Laura White who was having a fierce competitive
battle with the Aghada number 8. Our defenders performed well, with Eimear
Farrell standing out on this occasion. This game was end to end until the final
whistle with Aghada edging it by one point.

This
was the U14’s fifth outing in their league campaign and one which they won
comfortably. Youghal started very brightly and in particular Marie Hannon who
laid off some good ball to the attacking forwards which resulted in three quick
scores. By half time this game was over as a contest after Youghal scored some
good goals, in particular Ciera Crowley’s goal which was driven low and hard
into the left corner which gave the Watergrasshill goalkeeper absolutely no
chance. Youghal made a number of changes
at half time and again the players that came in impressed the mentors. The move
of the second half came when Laura White won a ball in midfield and played an
impressive one – two with Catriona O’Keefe and played an impressive kick pass
into Cameron Smith who took an excellent point to finish off an impressive
display by the whole team, once again. Next up for this team is Na Piarsaigh on
Good Friday at Club Aras at 2.00pm, which is our last home game of this league
campaign. Please support.

On
our third outing of the league, it was expected that this Youghal team were
going to win, but it was a big surprise the manner in which they did. From the
throw in, Youghal went on the attack with some fast moving football and
intelligent play and with about 15 minutes gone had secured a commanding lead.
Scores were coming from all over the forward line and at times our midfielders
got in on the act. When our defence were called upon they were up to the
challenge with a super individual performance from our centre half back Chloe
Landers. Needless to say when the ball was coming out of defence it was Chloe
who had the ball in her hands. This was further complimented by the two wing
backs Megan Brophy and Lucy Sheehan. At half time we made a number of changes
and the mentors were really impressed with all the girls that came on and
continued carrying the game to Carrigtwohill. This gives the mentors plenty of
food for thought for future selections. On a whole, this was an impressive
display from the whole panel, with scores coming from almost half the team at
various stages throughout the game. Particularly impressive in the forward line
on this occasion were Louise Dempsey and the O’Keefe sisters, Cathriona and
Clodagh. Next up for Youghal is the trip to Kerry this coming weekend and Na
Piarsaigh in the league. Again, mentors were very pleased with the progress
being made each game by this young team. Well done to all the players and a big
thank you to all the supporters.

This was the under 14s second game and our first at home in
the East Cork league.
The opposition this time were going to be tougher
proposition than our last opponents, due to a number of the Eris Own team being
on the Cork panel. Erins Own hit the ground running by getting on the score
board early in the game with some well worked goals and points, and at times
Youghal found it hard to cope with this
Erins Own team. Midway in the first half Youghal started getting on the ball,
and there were signs of promise in this Youghal team.
After the team talk and a number of changes made, the girls
fought well and hard to get themselves back into this game, by moving some fast
ball into the forwards who took full advantage of the chances the team were
creating . Our defence put in a super performance from goal keeper to the backs
and subs who gave their all to the team. For this team to score 4-5 in the
second half we as mentors are very happy with the progress been made, and it’s
all down to the hard work the girls are putting in at training after school and
on Saturday mornings so well done to all. Next up for the girls is Carrigtohill
on Sunday 26th of Feb at 11.30a.m. Please support.

On our first league game of 2012 this under 14 team had to travel the short trip to cloyne with a depleted team due to illness, but all credit to the girls on show you would not have known that we were short seven members of the panel. The Youghal girls took control of this game from the off. Our midfield were at the center off a lot of our a attacking play by setting up our forwards with plenty of good ball, which our forwards took full advantage by takeing some fine scores. The backs put in a super performance by not giving Cloyne any room to mount any attacks on the day. From our goalkeeper to our full forward every girl gave 100% to this team, and as mentors we can not ask for any more, so well done to all. Youghal 3-8 Midleton 1-4
Youghal Girls Football U12 team is taking the Lead in further Developing the new ladies football club as for the first time they reached an East Cork Final and ran out winners against a good Midleton side last Saturday evening in Killeagh.
The Youghal Girls were well on top from the start and created some excellent passages of play. The Defence were called upon on numerous occasion’s but handled the lively Midleton forward line with confidence. Youghal had some wide’s in the first half which made for some anxious moments for supporters and mentors but in the second half the team really put in a super effort to take some fine scores to run out easy winners and over the hour the main point for conversation was the talent on show within this new Club. This under 12s team have shown some great sprit through the year, and worked really hard on the training pitch and got their just reward last Saturday in Killeagh to win the east cork final to add to their east cork plate win back in July. Mentors, parents and supporters are very proud of this side and are all looking forward to 2012 where I’m sure more silverware will be won.

Youghal girl’s U/12 team produced their best performance all year to win the Plate Final against Midleton yesterday evening in Killeagh GAA grounds. From the off, Youghal were the hungrier side with superb displays in all positions. In attack the Youghal girls showed superior skills in taking fine scores when the opportunities arose. Fine flowing moves and off-loading of the ball at the correct moment to their team mates seemed the order of the evening as in the early stages Youghal took a commanding lead. When the defence were called upon, the girl’s never wained with again some fine displays in all positions. Only for a couple of lapses in concentration where Midleton scored two goals to keep the tie alive, the game could have been over by half time. In the end the half finished 1–05 to 2-01 in Youghal’s favour.
The second half began with Youghal taking the game to Midleton and notching up some fine points in quick succession. Youghal were in total control of this game, although the score line at times did not reflect their superiority. On a whole the mentor’s, and I am sure all who were there to witness the game were delighted with the effort and high standard of football played by this young Youghal team. Nerves were jangling in the crowd and on the sideline with seconds to go when Midleton scored a late goal, their only score of the second half, to bring the tie to a nail bitting finish. In the end even this goal could not deny this fine team from what they truly deserved as the game finished with Youghal edging their opponents by two points.
The future looks extremely bright for Ladies football in Youghal considering the talent that was on display for all to behold.

On May Bank Holiday Monday Youghal traveled to Rostellan for their 2nd league game, against Aghada. Both sides took to the field in very wet weather conditions. Youghal started very brightly with our midfield pair of Shauna O Connell and Sophie Monaghan winning a lot of ball. Our half forward line where very impressive with Catriona O Keeffe, Laura White and Ellen O Brian attacking the ball and wining lots of possession. At half time Youghal where one point ahead which was a good reflection of how the game was progressing.
The second half Aghada up the tempo, only for the great defensive work of Lydia Blanke and Eimear Farrell. Youghal conceded a penalty which our goalkeeper Niamh Kelly saved, Aghada where fast on the attack again and were luckey to score another goal. The scores of the half came from Catriona O Keeffe and Ciara Crowley
Overall this was an excellent performance from Youghal and this side can only get better so well done to all.
