    16/05/11 U14GF Youghal 8-5 Cloyne 3-7

The supporters who turned up to cheer on the Youghal girl’s U/14 team last Monday evening in Cloyne could only be impressed by the performance put in by all involved.  From the word go, the Youghal girl’s set about their task with great commitment and determination. The defence were terrific throughout, not allowing the Cloyne girl’s time or space on the ball. They all chased and harried the Cloyne forwards, keeping the frees against to a minimum. The hard work put in by the defence particularly in the first half was the ground on which the final result was built. The first half finished with Youghal having the score advantage.

The second half began with the Youghal midfield pairing of Sophie Monaghan and Shauna O’Connell  taking control with the help of centre back Lydia Blanke. Their running at the opposition defence  opened  the play for all the Youghal forwards to play their part in this fantastic win. Goal’s they say win matches and with Louise Dempsey and Ciara Crowley in top form a win for Youghal was not going to be denied. The game ended as a contest with about 15 minutes to go when Youghal scored three goals in quick succession, eventually running out easy winners by 13 points.

    Team:  N. Kelly, E. Farrell, A. McCarthy, K. Coleman, H. O’Connell, L. Blanke, M. Hannon, S. Monaghan, S. O’Connell , C. O’Keefe, L. White (C), E. O’Brien, C. Crowley, L. Dempsey, A. O’Neill.

    Subs: C. O’Keefe, S. Hannon, C. Landers, S. Keane.

    11/09/2010 Gaelic4Girls Comes to Youghal

Saturday 11th of September was another historic day in the history of CLG Eochaill when Gaelic4Girls commenced with over 70 girls (aged 8-13) attending. Gaelic4Girls is a program promoted by the Ladies Gaelic Football Association aimed at increasing participation in rapid, urban or non traditional areas. The program targets girls between the ages of 8-13 years in the hope that they will continue to play with local clubs in the area or that a new club may be formed in the area. The girls are taught the basic skills of Gaelic Football on a fun basis by fully qualified coaches and then demonstrate their new skills through a series of mini blitz of games.

The program will run over 8 weeks consisting of 7 weeks of coaching and the final week culminating with an internal blitz. Sessions are one hour in duration and will run from 10:30am – 11:30am each Saturday morning. A National Blitz day will also be held in November where all sites from around country come together to participate in fun, non competitive mini games. The girls get a chance to meet the Ladies Gaelic Football All Stars on the day also. Those attending on the National Blitz day will also receive a goodie bag.

The cost of participating in the program is €5 per player which goes towards the cost of tee-shirt, certificate & goodie bag. A fund raising fun based Quiz and Disco has been scheduled for Friday 5th November in Club Aras @ 8pm to raise funds to cover the cost of the players’ buses to the National Blitz Day in November. The program is also supported by the Cork Sports Partnership who funded the cost of the coaching course and any equipment that is needed to run the program successfully.

The initial reaction has been fantastic will numbers exceeding 70 on the first morning, and all participants eagerly looking forward to the next session. Over the next week the Ladies Football Urban Development Officer will visit the schools in the Youghal area promoting the program. With Ladies Football, the fastest growing sport in Europe, Youghal Juvenile club have positioned themselves strongly to support and compliment their Camogie counterparts in hosting sporting outlets for the girls of our town. Working together we hope to emulate the recent exploits of the underage and adult Camogie successes and
further strengthen Mná agus Cailíní as Eochaill in both Camogie and Football.

If anyone is interested in taking part or helping out please contact Cormac Galvin (0870508474) for further details.
