After a very successful Gaelic4Girls Program which was run from September to November 2010 we became official on January 28th when the club was formed. In our inaugural season we fielded 5 teams, Junior, Gaelic4Mothers, U14, U12 & U10s with over 120 players with 40 adults either playing Junior or Gaelic4Mothers and over 80 juveniles aged 6 - 14 years olds. Highlights of the year was of U12s winning the East Cork League and championship which was beyond our wildest dreams when we started on this existing journey, our U14s taking part in the Féile and a fantastic day out in Croke Park when we took 30 girls to play on the hallowed turf. Starting a club from scratch has not been easy. When your bank balance reads “zero” and you need everything from footballs to bibs. Our first fundraiser was a bag packing day in our local Supervalu which raised us enough money to buy one full set of jerseys. Our local Youghal GAA club have been very supportive of us allowing us to use their flood lit facility, their indoor hall and their pitch for training and matches. They also supplied us with a full set of jerseys for which we are very grateful. We look forward to a future of growing stronger together. Helping us to get off the ground the County Board could not have been more helpful with Ger Walsh on the end of the phone on a daily basis. He also helped us with equipment and courses. We also receive two full First Aid kits from Alison in Youghal Pharmacy which was a great help. On the playing front our Juniors took part in the County league division 4 and lost out to Lisgoold in the championship. With every game you could see an improvement in their skill and positioning and their dedication to training has to be admired. With 1 year’s experience behind them all are waiting on 2012 for the action to recommence. Gaelic 4 Mothers kicked off in April 2011 when we had over 25 women of all ages out on the field on a weekly basis all having the craic. The laughter could be heard all through the club with the result that some of the men were looking to train with us for a bit of fun! We were lucky enough to be chosen to play in Parnel Park at the interval of the All Ireland league finals this May, which was the highlight of the year for this dedicated group of mothers. During July they participated in the Munster 7 a-side blitz hosted by Clonakilty and by all accounts a great day was had by all. Our juvenile teams had a very enjoyable year which the emphasis by all coaches being on improving the girl’s skills and giving all a run in every game. Officially we fielded U10s, U12s, U13s & U14s in the East Cork Leagues and championship. Our U10s lost out narrowly to Mayfield in the plate final. Our U12s won the East Cork double beating Midleton in both finals, while our U14s lost the championship final to near neighbours Inch Rovers. Highlight of the season for the U14 panel was participation in the Féile competition were we hosted Sean O’Heslins, the Leitrim county champions. A fantastic weekend was had by all with friendships been formed that will last for many a year to come. Our U10s & U8s also participated in blitzs hosted by Ballyphehane and Passage, many thanks to both clubs for fantastic day’s entertainment. Youghal Ladies Football Club would like to thank all of it’s sponsors, coaches and mentors for giving generously of their time, both Cork & the East Cork Boards for all of their advice, support and encouragement in our first year and to all parents and supporters who really encourage the girls in every match. Finally to all of the girls many thanks for the dedication shown in both training and matches and here’s to 2012. As ye all sing “Lets Go Youghal lets Go”, Eochaill Abú. 2011 AGM Recently in Club Áras a well attended Ladies Gaelic Football Club AGM was held in which highlights and memories from our inaurgual year were presented and discussed in detail. On Sunday September 18th, Youghal Ladies Football club officially launched their club.Over 150 people turned up in Club Aras, Magners Hill, Youghal on the night. Cormac Galvin, club sec, took to the floor first, where he gave a brief history on the club to date, he told how a very successful Gaelic4Girls program started up last September with a result that Youghal had 2 buses full in november going to the national blitz where a great day was had by all. Numbers have since climbed to where they have over 100 girls training every week! To date, our U12s have won the East Cork Plate and our U14s are in the final. "Nobody could have prepared us for the amount of support we have received" said Cormac,"the girls, parents and especially mentors have been unbelieveable since this all started, we have a very bright future".
Next up to talk was Catriona Bulman-Hill, chairperson. Catriona told how to date the response to the club has been fantastic, even in these depressing times. She told how the plan to go forward with the club is to have a minor team next year and in 2013 to have an u 16 team to complete the club. Catriona told how last January over 40 girls started training in the cold, wet nights, most of them had never held a football, (some had, however, held the oval ball!!). The girls all grew together through their love of this new found sport. Catriona stresses that they are always looking for new players, "new girls are welcome always" she says, "especially at minor age. We hope to get a strong panel together before next January to start the 2012 season". The club also have a Gaelic4Mothers team. "this is a fun filled training session for women of all ages and fitnesses levels" said Catriona. Its about fun and getting people involved in the club and again is opened to all. The next thing that was talked about was a fund-raising night coming up on Saturday October 1st, its called " Girls night in....the pub", its a hair and beauty night where you will learn all about how to achieve "the look" in the comfort of your own home. a hairstylist will give a demonstration on all the up to date looks, followed by a make-up demonstration and then we will have our own "Gok" Mrs Avril Geary tellin us "what not to wear", all this is followed by a disco and for the UNBELIEVEABLE price of...E5!! Tickets avaiable from members of the club and on the door on the night. "please please support" she asks. Catriona finished up by thanking everyone for all the help so far and again asks for any body who would like to get involved in anyway to please come forward, "we are always looking for help with teams, full training will be provided" she says, "without help, this club would not of reached this standard in such a short time!" With every body happy and the photos taken in this fine facility here in Youghal GAA club, we all tucked in to the feast that was provided by membes of the ladies football. A great night was had by all. 17/09/2011 U10 & U8 Passage West Football Blitz

28/07/2011 - Youghal Ladies Football Notes
July has been a hectic month for our new Club with all teams playing from U10 up to Gaelic4Mothers. Our U14s hosted and played in this year's Féile and held their own against more established teams. Overall the Féile was a fantastic occassion and friendships were made between the Youghal girls and our visitors from Ballinamore in Co. Leitrim. Many thanks to all who helped out over the weekend. Our juniors played in the 7 aside Munster blitz held by the Clonakilty club where by all acounts a great day and long trip home was had by all. From our underage teams 23 girls represented the Club in the Gaelic4Girls Blitz Day held in Croke Park on July 5th, which was a fantastic occassion for all players and families who travelled to Dublin to watch their daughters play 8 games on the hallowed turf. Our Gaelic4Mothers team continue to improve and played in the Munster Blitz held in Mallow and thoroughly enjoyed themselves and played great football throughout the day. Finally pride of place goes to our U12s who won the Club's first trophy, the U12 East Cork League Plate by defeating Midleton on a scoreline of 1-9 to 3-1. This win has generated a fantastic buzz around the Club and town and rewards both players and mentors for all their effort over the past 6 months. Well done to all involved. Photos from Féile and our trip to Croke Park can be viewed on our web site, www.youghal.cork.gaa.ie.
Match report U12GFL Plate Final Youghal 1-9 Midleton 3-1 Youghal girl’s U/12 team produced their best performance all year to win the Plate Final against Midleton yesterday evening in Killeagh GAA grounds. From the off, Youghal were the hungrier side with superb displays in all positions. In attack the Youghal girls showed superior skills in taking fine scores when the opportunities arose. Fine flowing moves and off-loading of the ball at the correct moment to their team mates seemed the order of the evening as in the early stages Youghal took a commanding lead. When the defence were called upon, the girl’s never wained with again some fine displays in all positions. Only for a couple of lapses in concentration where Midleton scored two goals to keep the tie alive, the game could have been over by half time. In the end the half finished 1–05 to 2-01 in Youghal’s favour. The second half began with Youghal taking the game to Midleton and notching up some fine points in quick succession. Youghal were in total control of this game, although the score line at times did not reflect their superiority. On a whole the mentor’s, and I am sure all who were there to witness the game were delighted with the effort and high standard of football played by this young Youghal team. Nerves were jangling in the crowd and on the sideline with seconds to go when Midleton scored a late goal, their only score of the second half, to bring the tie to a nail bitting finish. In the end even this goal could not deny this fine team from what they truly deserved as the game finished with Youghal edging their opponents by two points. The future looks extremely bright for Ladies football in Youghal considering the talent that was on display for all to behold. Team: F. Flavin, A. Arthur, E. Farrell, K. Coleman, K. Malone, H. What started off as a mid life crisis for one woman, ended up as a football club 12 months later! In July 2010, on a sunny Saturday morning the now secretary of our club Cormac Galvin said to the now Chairperson of our club Catriona Hill “thinking of starting a girls football team, what do you think?” to which the reply was “that’s funny because I was thinking of starting Gaelic 4 Mothers” and so an idea was born. “Let’s go the full monty” they decided and start a full club and so the Youghal Ladies Football club was established. In September 2010, Cormac started the Gaelic for girls programme. Over 70 girls turned up each Saturday for a fun filled training session. The enthusiasm of the girls spread like wild fire and number grew and the girls kept coming back week after week. Many parents helped out with training and with back round jobs, helping this to run very successfully. This went on for over 8 weeks and ended up with two buses and over 70 children playing in a Gaelic for Girls blitz in Clonmel on 20th of November 2010,where great fun was to be had and all came home happy and tired. Meanwhile Catriona made it known to every girl in Youghal she knew that a new club was being set up. She drafted in some players and mentors on social nights out where it seemed like a good idea at the time and a “no” wasn’t taken for an answer! Soon the news spread and the idea of a Ladies Football Club was now becoming real. With the help of Beanie, Ger and Brian training began in January 2011. By the end of January there were over 100 registered members in the club. In a town with very little Ladies Football history the club had already blossomed to a degree we now have U8,U10,U12, U14, also a Junior team and a very enthusiastic Gaelic 4 Mothers team. In the not too distant future we hope we have an U16 and a Minor team to develop our club fully. Starting a club from scratch has not been easy. When your bank balance reads “zero” and you need everything from footballs to bibs. Our first fundraiser was a bag packing day in our local Supervalu which raised us enough money to buy one full set of jerseys. Other fundraising ideas are in the pipe line for the summer months ahead. One of the problems we have encountered in setting up the club is the fact that the GAA, Camogie and Ladies Football are still three separate clubs. If all three clubs were under the same governing body it would make life easier and cheaper for the smaller clubs i.e. membership and insurance etc. This is one of the issues our local club man Uachtaran CLG Criostoir O Cuana is trying to resolve before his term at office is up. It is an issues we would be fully supportive of to help us in developing our club. This year all five teams are involved in East Cork competitions and also County League. While we might not be winning too many games yet all teams are showing great potential and look to have a bright future ahead. There is a great fun element involved in football and everybody in the wider community is getting involved which results with new girls starting to take up this fun sport on a weekly basis. Out of our registered players some girls came from other local sports like Camogie, Rugby and Soccer and the co operation between clubs will be very important in going forward and will play a big part in our club evolving. With a vibrant Camogie Club in Youghal alot of our players are now dual players in all teams which will only build a brighter and better future for GAA sport in our local community. Working together with match fixtures and training sessions will see the two clubs grow together. While some of our girls have experience in matches and training others had never kicked a football in their lives but sure can now! We have been given a great honour in our U14 team being invited to play in this year’s Feile in Cork. We are hosting Ballinamore Club from Leitrim and all within the club are very excited to be involved in this fantastic weekend. Alot of work has gone into this in getting host families, entertainment and making it a weekend we will not forget. We would like to thank all involved in helping us with this. Gaelic 4 Mothers kicked off in April 2011 and we have over 25 women of all ages out on the field on a weekly basis all having the craic. The laughter can be heard all through the club with the result that some of the men are looking to train with us for a bit of fun! We were lucky enough to be chosen to play in Parnel Park at the interval of the All Ireland league finals this May. Gaelic 4 Mothers is ideal for Ladies who have come later to the sport and are finding a great way to get fit and to realise how hard the game REALLY is to participate in, when you’re not on the side line shouting! Finally, none of this could of come together so successfully already without the help of a committee some who volunteered for jobs and others who didn’t have a choice and were just told! Without your help this club would not be up and running to the success it is in such a short space of time. Our thanks to you and may we grow stronger and wear our new Ladies Football jersey with pride.
